Religions Paragraphs

Christianity- Christianity was founded by Jesus Christ and is Abrahamic in origin. It has around 2.2 billion adherents which is the largest in the world. You can find people practicing it in Europe, the Americas, and southern Africa. You call the people who practice it Christians and their Holy Book is called the Bible. Christian beliefs are that Jesus is both human and divine - the Son of God, he led a virtuous life, he was crucified, died, buried, and resurrected and he ascended into heaven where he reigns with God the Father. The clergy is the Pope who is head of the Catholic Church and priest who are local authorities.


Buddhism- Buddhism was founded by Siddhartha Gautama. It has around 500,000,000 to 1.5 billion adherents. You call them Buddhist and they are found in Southeast Asia, China, Nepal, and Japan. They have 4 denominations which are Tibetan, Zen, Theravada, and Amidist. Buddhist beliefs are in the Four Noble Truths and in the Eightfold Path. There are  about 1.3 million adherents in the United States.



Islam- Islam was founded by Muhammad who lived from 570-632. There are 1.5 billion adherents in the world. You can call them Muslims and you can find them in Indonesia, the Middle East, and north Africa. The denominations that they have are Sunnis, and Shiites. Their Holy Book is called the Qu'ran(Koran). They are another Abrahamic based religion who are monotheistic and believe in the 5 Pillars.



Hinduism- Hinduism has no distinct founder. Hinduism has about 1.1 billion adherents in the world which is the 3rd largest of all. They are called Hindus and you can find them in India, and Nepal. Their Holy Book is called the Vedas which are eternal truths revealed to ancient sages which are composed in verse form. The Vedas are meant to be sung and be easily remembered.



Judaism- Judaism was founded by Abraham. There are about 14-18 million adherents in the world. Believers in Judaism are called Jews who can be found in Israel, and the United States. Their Holy Book is called the Torah which is the first five books of the Old Testament. Their beliefs are ethical monotheism. This means that God is one, and concerned with the actions of humankind. They believe in the Ten Commandments and the 13 Principals of Faith.
